Mountains, meadows and an invitation

In Obereggen there are plenty of opportunities at all levels to keep fit und active. A gentle walk, a challenging hike, demanding climbing and scrambling, in the midst of peaceful, charming nature.

The following examples serve as an illustration of this inexhaustible diversity:


Across large meadows onto the Epircher Laner Alm

Something to get you acclimatised: this hike goes across the “Grosswiesen” past the Haflinger horses to the “Epircher Laner Alm” across luscious mountain meadows and through cool woodland. A relaxing hike as an introduction to a restorative and eventful week’s hiking.

High-altitude hike on the Latemar

This panoramic hike runs along below the fascinating backdrop of the Latemar massif und above the boundary of trees. The blossom of alpine roses is especially charming in June and July. At 2,000m above sea level the “Schafhütte” invites you to linger and admire the filigree peaks of the Latemar.

Conquest of the Weißhorn

From the peak of the “Weißhorn” you can enjoy a stunning 360° view of the Schlern, Rosengarten and Latemar and the surrounding world of mountains. After a gentle climb across mountain pastures and pine woodland you can see moreover from the mountain peak into the “Bletterbachschlucht” (ravine). The unspoilt “Gurndinalm” is an ideal spot to take refreshments.

Geological-botanical path at the Dos Capel

This nature studies path, with explanatory signs, takes you around the “Dos Capel” and offers insights into the geological history of the Dolomites. The geological municipal museum Predazzo endowed the path. Our diverse and wonderful mountain flora will accompany you. Without fail, you must take the description with you.

Through the Latemar’s sea of rocks

The starting point is the mountain station “Oberholz” (400m from the Hotel Zischghof) at 2,150m above sea level. The climb follows route 18 to the “Gamsstallscharte” (2,560m) past the “Eisseen”. Once you reach “Gamsstallscharte” you continue on route 516 to the “Pisa Hütte” (open). The descent is via routes 516 and 22 to the “Mayrlboden” (2,037m). Return journey with the Oberholz chair lift to Obereggen (only in spring).

Via the Vailon pass to the Christomannos monument

This hike through the Rosengarten leads over the “Vailonpass” at 2,560m above sea level. From there you reach the east side of the Rosengarten and hike through blooming alpine mountain pastures as far as the return to the “Rotwandhütte”. On the descent to the “Paolinahütte” this route leads past the “Christomannos Denkmal” that was erected in honour of the 19th century pioneer of alpine tourism in the Dolomites.

Through the Blätterbachschlucht

This geological hike in the “Bletterbachschlucht” guides you through the history of the earth from the Cretaceous period with ammonites via the Jura with fossils of ferns and grasses up to the present day with a stop for refreshments in the mountain pastures of Aldein and a portion of Strauben (a local dessert).

Hanicker Schwaige

This panoramic hike starting from the Niger pass leads below the Rosengarten through alpine woodland over blooming mountain pastures as far as the picturesquely located “Hanicker-Schwaige”. From there you can admire the extreme climbers on the “Vajolet summits” or enjoy a typical South Tyrolean Brettljause (snack).
