Rosengarten-Latemar: Dolomites world natural heritage

Since 2009, the calcareous mountains of the Dolomites, including the Rosengarten and Latemar, belong to the most beautiful landscapes of the world. This honourable accolade of the UNESCO has been awarded to 50 districts in Europe and only 199 in the whole world.

This distinguished region stretches over more than 250km2 from the Tierser valley and Gummerer Berg to Karersee (Lake Karer) and Eggen valley and nestles in unique slopes of meadows and coniferous woodland. At the foot of the Eggental Mountains that roll out from the Reiterjoch there are seven picturesque mountain villages of which Obereggen is one.
